One of my favourite birds, I always love seeing th One of my favourite birds, I always love seeing the colourful flash of the lilac-breasted roller in the African bush. I wanted to get a proper photo of one against the bright sky for so long, and finally this one was sitting in just the right spot. Sometimes wildlife do actually cooperate!

T-minus two weeks to my next adventure, feels like I haven’t picked up my camera in ages!
It’s World Photography Day and sometimes I still h It’s World Photography Day and sometimes I still have to pinch myself that some of my work involves pointing a camera at my favourite animals, in one of my favourite places.

But it’s not just the “picture-perfect” moments I love capturing, but the times when personalities, quirks, humour and a bit of realism can be found as well. So in honour of this day, I give you the “bleps” that make me smile every time 👅

Which one is your favourite?

One of my favourite things about photographing ani One of my favourite things about photographing animals is the challenge of not being able to pose them. Yes, it can be frustrating, and I don’t have the patience to wait a long time for the perfect shot, but that actually pushes me to work quickly, try different angles, pay attention to behaviour and learn to be happy with what I can get instead of being annoyed at what I couldn’t.

Livestock Guardian Dogs play a vital role in mitigating human-wildlife conflict around the world. These gorgeous Anatolian Shepherds have been protecting livestock for centuries, and by reducing predation they prevent farmers retaliating against (often innocent) predators that may be endangered.

Missing the Namibian winter while melting in 35 degree heat (yet somehow there was just a hailstorm outside?!?).

While on a sundowner drive the other day, we came across this trio quietly browsing in the trees next to the road. Curious and calm, they let us share the evening sun with them for a while. During this time, a few more appeared along the road.

To me, giraffes embody the peace I feel in the African bush 🦒

Shadows and light 💛🖤 This young cheetah has start Shadows and light 💛🖤

This young cheetah has started his rehabilitation journey. Though still too young to be released back into the wild, he spends his days in a large, natural enclosure with his siblings, with as little human interaction as possible so he retains his wild nature. Seeing the wariness in his eyes is a satisfying feeling, knowing that one day hopefully he will be back where he belongs.

A mongoose, feasting on its contents, ducking its head in and out of the hole in the side, occasionally glancing our way, but generally uncaring of our presence.

The only time a mongoose hasn’t bolted, and it posed perfectly!

I always wish these cheetahs were out living in th I always wish these cheetahs were out living in the wild, where they belong, but selfishly I also love the chance to see them close up. I am lucky to have so many opportunities to photograph them while they act as important ambassadors for their species, which desperately needs protection.

At least I can tell by the loud purrs that they’re generally content 😌
